Frequently Asked Questions

All of your business communications questions answered

What is a hosted/cloud-based telephone system?

Hosted VoIP or Hosted PBX is a business telephone system provided as a monthly service. It provides all the features and functionality you expect from a premise-business telephone system without the large capital expense normally associated with purchasing and maintaining a premise-based mechanical system. The only hardware onsite are the physical phones. Hosted PBX provides unlimited nationwide dialing comes with standard system features you are accustomed to and more.

Why is this better than a premise-based system with landlines?

Because the telephone system is cloud-based, businesses do not have to absorb the normally large capital expense of investing in a telephone system cabinet or server installed onsite. A hosted PBX solution also eliminates the normal costs associated with having a business telephone system housed onsite. Some of those ongoing costs are costly landlines from carriers like AT&T, Windstream, cable companies, CenturyLink, and so on. Eliminate annual maintenance contracts with the phone system vendor, warranties on components and hardware, software support subscriptions, service calls and break fix costs. Hardware and components fail over time and will ultimately need replaced. The only hardware onsite when using a hosted VoIP/hosted PBX solution are the physical desk phones.

What happens if my internet goes down?

Because we understand that internet outages can be expected from time to time with various causes, our systems provide multiple recovery options for phone system failover. All calls to the primary published number will automatically failover to a cell phone number of choosing and/or if the subscriber is a multi-site organization, callers can failover to an alternate location. When the internet or network come back online the system automatically ends the failover and call flow return to the desk phones. You can also use a mobile hotspot.  Select models of desk phones have built-in wi-fi. Another option would be our MaX UC mobile application on a smartphone. All calls to the primary number will ring through the app allowing caller to be answered, leave VM, be transferred to departments or extensions within the organization. Out bound calls can be made as well, the business line presents the business numbers on outbound caller ID keeping the cell number private.

Yes.  Hughes understands remote work is becoming more of a necessity.  Our  HughesFLEX  service lives in the cloud, phone users are not tethered to a phone that resides at the business location. The physical phones can be taken home or anywhere with an active internet connection and they will work as if you are in the office.

Do we have to change our phone numbers?

No. You will be asked to provide Hughes with a list of phone and fax numbers that your business wishes to bring along. Hughes will coordinate to establish the handoff of the phone and fax numbers. If you are a newly established business Hughes can provide you with new phone numbers, new fax numbers, a vanity number as well as toll-free numbers if needed.

How many lines will we have with your service?

Hosted VoIP provides great line capacity. The simplest way to think about line capacity is to know that where there is a phone, there is a line or voice path for inbound and outbound dialing. Most times a move to a Hosted PBX solution increases the organizations line capacity. If all lines are in use the systems auto-attendant can engage your caller and route them to the proper department, extension, or voice mail box.
